OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OT) is a person centred profession that is regulated by the Health Care Professionals Council (HPCP) https://www.hcpc-uk.org/.
OTs work in a diverse range of settings from hospitals, community, voluntary organisations, private companies, prisons, schools, police service to name a few. We work with people of all ages.
OTs support people to overcome the barriers that they face and empower and enable them to do the occupations (activities) that they need and want to do.
My area of expertise is supporting people aged over 50 to live independent lives. The NHS reports that
Anyone can have a fall, but older people are more vulnerable and likely to fall, especially if they have a long-term health condition.
Falls are a common, but often overlooked, cause of injury. Around 1 in 3 adults over 65 and half of people over 80 will have at least one fall a year.
Most falls do not result in serious injury. But there's always a risk that a fall could lead to broken bones, and it can cause the person to lose confidence, become withdrawn, and feel as if they have lost their independence.
